Details

The village was found by migrants from the Caucasus and the first name of the village was Almali. However, the name was changed to Resadiye after the Ottoman Sultan Mehmet Resat V as he  enjoyed staying in the village and had a fountain built here. Later, the name Guneykoy was adopted.

Guneykoy has a colourful life with the traditional food, weddings, and folkloric other attractions.  Sites such as the Resadiye Fountain, its mosque, the old mosque, the tomb of the Sheikh of Serafettin Dagistanli make the village an attractive tourist destination.

Activities:

1. Plant Collection and Local Production: Plant collection activities take place in Guneykoy especially various kinds of herbs and fruits could be collected and used in medical treatments.

Best times and herbs:

Peony, horsetail, yellow dock, windflower, centuary (yellow-white), linden (July), thyme, sage (June),  nettle, cornelian cherry (August-September) chestnut (October).

Production: Various jams and herb oil such as century oil, sherbet, pancake with some of the herbs.

2. Art and Craft; “Sculpture, Woodcarving, Silver and Horn Jewel making workshops: Guneykoy hosts some of masters of crafts including gold filigree  Workshops are organised for visitors interested in experiencing it.

3. Local Cuisine of  the Dagistan; One can taste local dishes of local ravioli,  suracet, bahuk, natuh, village yeast bread as well as seasonal natural drinks in a very traditional environment.

4. The Tomb of the Sheikh of Serafettin Dagistanli (K.S): Known as “Ebu’l-Fukara”, one of the most distinguished person of the Sufism in the last century, his parents’ graves are in the village. There are indication and hymn sittings every Thursday and Sunday in the house of the sheikh.
